Import Image File

File > Import

When you import a raster image file with an associated world file (in the .bpw, .jgw, .pgw, .tfw, .gfw, or .wld formats), Vectorworks automatically uses the companion world file to import the image as a georeferenced image.

ECW, GeoTIFF, and JP2 (JPEG 2000) files, which can also be imported for GIS/georeferencing purposes, store georeference information within the file rather than in a separate world file.

To import a georeferenced image:

Select the command, and then the image file for import.

In the Image Import Options dialog box, specify the georeferencing options.

Click to show/hide the parameters.Click to show/hide the parameters.

Parameter

Description

Georeferencing

When the image file contains georeferenced geometry, specify how to set the coordinate system. See Specifying document georeferencing.

Use the document's coordinate system

Imports and projects the image using the coordinate system settings that were already set for the file

Use the image's coordinate system

Uses the coordinate system from the imported file; select Set the document’s coordinate system to match

Set the document's coordinate system to match

If selecting a different coordinate system for the import, select this option to keep the layers and document using the same coordinate system

WorldFile Units

The proposed unit for import is displayed, based on the current file coordinate system and document units. Select a different coordinate system unit if needed.

Use the internal origin as the origin for the world file coordinates

When selected, adjusts the world file coordinates to the current file's internal origin, automatically placing the imported image correctly in reference to the internal origin

If a world file is associated with the image file, the image is automatically imported, translated, and scaled according to the units specified in the options. The current view changes to Fit to Objects, so the imported image is visible.

To import an image without its associated world file scaling and translation, either rename the associated world file, or move it to a different folder.

If the scale is incorrect after import, the units setting might be wrong. Change the setting and import the file again.
